Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756 as the seventh child of "Salzburg's royal chamber musician" Leopold Mozart (1719 - 1787) and his wife, Anna Maria Walpurga née Pertl of St. Gilgen near Salzburg (1720 - 1778).
In 2006 the Mozart week will be extended to 14 days. Highlights are La Finta Giardiniera and the special concert with the Vienna Philharmonics and Ricardo Muti on Mozart´s birthday on 27 January with performances on his original violin during the break.

located in Getreidegasse no. 9, is where the Leopold Mozart family lived from 1747 to 1773. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born here on January 27, 1756. Today the rooms once occupied by the Mozart family house a museum.
The Mozart family lived in Mozart's Residence, Makartplatz 8 from 1773 to 1787. Most of the building was destroyed by a bomb in 1944, only preserving the portal entrance and the "Dancing Master's Hall".
